Arnold Eugene “Gene” Hunt, 80, of Urbana, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family and friends Monday evening, January 5, 2009. He was born December 18, 1928 in Mingo, Ohio, the son of the late Roy and Marie (Thompson) Hunt. Gene was a devoted Christian and was employed as a toolmaker at Grimes Manufacturing where he retired after 40 years of service. He shared his life with his beloved wife, Jean Hines Hunt, whom he married on April 15, 1951, in Champaign County.

Gene is survived by five children Shelley (Paul) Davis of Urbana, Vicky (Larry) McCauley of Marysville, Ohio, Cylinda (Woody) Herron of Zanesfield, Ohio, Becky Hunt of North Lewisburg, Ohio, and Richard (Ann) Hunt of Urbana; grandchildren, Ryin (Brad) Oder, Emily (Lee) Purk, Gary (Lindsay) Davis, Jamie (Doug) Wesson, Paul W. (Merideth) Davis Jr. and Cade Hunt; great grandchildren, Brennan, Blayne and Reese Order, Sydney Wesson, Elaina and Levi Purk, Gene is also survived by brothers, Bud (Betty) Hunt of Piqua, Ohio, and Earl (Mae) Hunt of Urbana. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Huffman and a brother, Luther Hunt.

Gene enjoyed retirement and watching his children and grandchildren growing up and playing sports. He also enjoyed camping and boating with his family and in earlier years, enjoyed Boy Scouts and the 4-H activities at the Champaign County Fair. Those who met him never forgot the kindness and compassion that he shared with his family and friends.

The funeral service will be held at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty Friday, January 9, 2009, at 11:00 am with Pastors Will Stackhouse and Ron Irick presiding. Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, January 8, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Kingscreek Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice Care.

The family would like to thank Dr. Libby Wilson, Dr. Najeeb Ahmed and Community Hospice for the care and compassion given to Gene.
