Betty L. (Purk) Reames, 77, of East Liberty and formerly of DeGraff, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Green Hills Care Center in West Liberty, Ohio. She was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on August 23, 1945, a daughter of the late Wilbur Ray and Pauline LaVerne (Thomas) Purk. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her infant twin sister, Barbara Purk; two brothers, William Purk, and Richard Purk, and a sister-in-law, Joyce (Wise) Purk.
Betty is survived by her two children, Shannon (Beth) Reames, and Shawndel (Matthew) Wilson; three grandchildren, Ashley (Lucas) Meeker, Erica Wilson, and Marah Reames; three step grandchildren, TJ, Collin, and Grace; two great grandchildren, Carson Meeker, and Camden Meeker; a sister-in-law, Debra Purk; seven nieces, April (Scott) Lantz, Darla (Mason Randle) Keifer, Nikki Purk, Mandy (Jack) Smith, Amy (Nick) Richardson, Kristin (Travis) Burchett, and Ilona (Nathan Giesman) Purk; numerous great nieces and great nephews; numerous cousins; special friends, Ellen Oakley, Sheri Shoffstall, and Amber & TJ Weikart; Goshen Friends Church family who prayed continuously for Betty; and the nurses and staff of Greenhills and Universal Home Health and Hospice.
Betty had worked as a mail sorter for the U.S. Postal Service. She was a lifetime member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Doyle R. Miller Amvets Post #39, member of Logan County Genealogical Society Lineage Societies, Bellefontaine Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of Union Veterans of Civil War Harriett Brubaker Tent #139, member of "The Select Nuts Club", Past Resident President of Greenhills Care Center, past Girl Scouts of Appleseed Ridge Troop Leader, past Boy Scout Pack Leader, and past Sunday School Teacher at the DeGraff United Methodist Church.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2022, at Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 210 W. Hayes Street, DeGraff in DeGraff, where Pastor Wayne Downing will officiate a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff, Ohio.
