Bonnie Jo Hansen

Bonnie Hansen, Bellefontaine, Ohio, age 72, left this world on Friday, September 23, 2022, to experience Heaven. She was born Bonnie Jo Buchenroth, the eldest child of Joe Eldon and Ethel Mae Hurley Buchenroth, Bellefontaine, on July 29, 1950.

Those who knew Bonnie knew her as a woman who never knew a stranger and one who loved to meet new people. She was a proud graduate of Indian Lake High School, OSU Alumni, Bowling Green State University Alumni, and held a MA in Education from Bluffton University. Bonnie spent 34 years in the field of Education – 18 years in Family and Consumer Science/Home Economics and 16 years in Special Education. She advised a National FCCLA officer when she was Ohio’s Coordinator for FCCLA.

Bonnie married Dwight D. Hansen on July 10, 1971. Together they loved to travel, were involved in musicals, went camping, attended OSU games, tailgated, read, cross-stitched, and quilted. In 1986 they adopted two brothers who had been separated for three years. Bonnie believed in living a life of service. She served as an officer of the Logan County History Center, 23 years, served on the Logan County Fair Board, the Logan County Friendly Senior Board, state’s Vice President for Ohio Homemakers and Community Education, Appleseed Ridge Girl Scout Council and Logan County 4-H Committee. She was an avid quilter and made many charity quilts.

Bonnie leaves behind Dwight (husband), Jeff (Christine) Hansen and Jeffery “Bub” and Jacob Hansen of Carthage, NY, and grandchildren Becky (Mackenzie) Hansen of Heath, OH; Emily (Kyle) Fejko, Carthage, NY, Gabriel Hansen of Jacksonville, NC, and Alana (Spencer) Jewell of Bowling Green, KY, and Michael John Hansen of Rochester, NY. Bonnie also leaves behind many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, quilting friends and her kitty, Rascal.

She is survived by three siblings, Cindy (Jack) Beuschlein, Susie (Eric) Whetsel, Steve Buchenroth; sister-in-law Kim Buchenroth and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Dennis Joe Hansen (Afghanistan, 2009), and two brothers, Kerry, and Kris Buchenroth.

The family requests contributions be made to the Logan County History Center in honor of Bonnie’s love and work toward the preservation of Logan County History Center, 521 East Columbus Avenue, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 29, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 321 N. Main Street, Bellefontaine. Visitation from 10-11 a.m. and services on Friday, September 30, 2022, at Indian Lake Community Church, 121 North Orchard Island Road, Russells Point, OH followed by interment at Huntsville Cemetery, Huntsville, Ohio.
