Charlene Mitchell, 94, of Bellefontaine, passed away Friday morning, November 13, 2020, at Logan Acres Care Center.

Charlene was born in Bellefontaine on September 11, 1926, to Milton E. and Lenore (Barnhart) Metz.  She married Cyrus E. “Cy” Mitchell on November 22, 1947, and he preceded her in death on March 27, 2007.  Charlene was also preceded in death by sisters Lorraine Spencer and Allie Diehl, and a brother Earl Metz.

Charlene is survived by her sons: Don (Arlene) Mitchell, Bob (Cheryl) Mitchell, and Tom (Robin) Mitchell, all of Bellefontaine; seven grandchildren:  Donald (Amber) Mitchell II, Doug (Jenni) Mitchell, Bob (Laura) Mitchell Jr., Christi Mitchell Dodds, Devry (Andy) Shirk, Matt (Heather) Myers, and Brock (Chelsea) Mitchell; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; brothers: Arthur Metz of Bellefontaine, and George (Joanne) Metz of Lakeview; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charlene had worked at GC Murphy in Bellefontaine, then stayed home to raise her family.  With her husband, they ran Mitchell Sunoco and Charlene was the secretary / treasurer for many years.  She loved to fish and enjoyed country drives to look at deer.  Charlene also loved her cats, and enjoyed all the kids and grandkids sporting events.  Many people will remember her for the Texas fruit cakes she sold for the Music Parents & Friends.  Charlene was a member of First United Methodist Church, Bellefontaine.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 16, 2020, at 2pm at Highland Memorial Cemetery, with Pastor Joe Ziraldo officiating.   Due to current pandemic order, please be symptom free, practice social distancing, and consider wearing a mask.
