Don R. Ambos, 93, of Jackson Center, passed away peacefully at 9:25am on Wednesday morning, February 7, 2024, at Indian Lake Rehabilitation Center.
Don was born in Shelby County on September 21, 1930, to the late John Jacob and Freda (Allenbaugh) Ambos. He was also preceded in death by his wife Della Eileen (Shively) Ambos; daughter Cheryl Minnich; daughter-in-law Teresa Ambos; sisters: Lucille Harris, Kathryn Cowan, and Patricia Rickert; and brothers: infant Robert Ambos, Darrell D. Ambos, Virgil Ambos, and Robert L. Ambos.
Don is survived by his children: Rick (Nancy) Ambos, Vickie (Steve) Eakins, Darrell Ambos, and Jackie (Scott) Cornwell; son-in-law Steve Minnich; stepchildren: Deana Claypool, Robert (Connie) Farley, Lan (Mary) Farley, Fred (Denise) Farley, Melanie (Jim) Brant, and Valerie Donahoe; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Don was a 1951 graduate of Jackson Center High School. He worked at Airstream from March of 1958 until February of 2020; during his years of employment he spent time in manufacturing, repairs, and lastly giving tours of the plant before Covid forced his retirement. Prior to his time at Airstream, Don had also worked at Delco in Dayton. Over the years, Don acquired a fairly extensive radio collection that he cherished.
Pastor David Sanders will officiate a graveside service on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 11am at Glen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Universal Home Health & Hospice, 921 Rush Ave. Bellefontaine, OH 43311.
