Eugene "Gene" Brooks, 71, of Okeechobee, Florida and formerly of Quincy, passed away at 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at his Florida home. He was born in Painesville, Ohio on January 7, 1953, a son of the late Eugene Glenn Brooks and Rosebud Marie (Houston) Brooks.
On June 28, 1975, Gene married Sarah L. “Sally” (Kinzie) Brooks in Hickory Corners, Michigan and she preceded him in death on March 24, 2019. Gene married Darlene Marilyn (Robbins) Brussell Brooks on August 6, 2022, in Quincy, Ohio and she survives. He is also survived by two sons, Judson (Melissa) Brooks, and Jason (Brittany) Brooks; four grandchildren, Brad Howell, Travis Brooks, Joel Brooks, and Savanna Brooks; five stepchildren; and numerous step grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Reed, and a brother, Chuck Brooks.
Gene was the owner and operator of Oakdale Campground in Quincy for 14 years. He enjoyed camping and watching his grandkids play football. Gene was so proud of his grandchildren; they were the joy of his life.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 210 W. Hayes Street in DeGraff, where Pastor Kelly Lee will officiate a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made, in Gene’s memory, to the Quincy Fire Department, 119 Main Street, Quincy, Ohio 43343.
