Floyd Franklin Lundy (93) passed from this life into his eternal life on the evening of May 31, 2025, at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, Ohio.
Floyd was born to Floyd Emmett and Sylvia Gladys (Tice) Lundy on December 29, 1931, in Lima, Ohio. Floyd was the oldest of four brothers: Roger, Alva (“Rusty”), and Richard, all deceased.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Kathy; his three children, Jonathan and Deb (Howell) Lundy, Timothy and Victoria (Overholt) Lundy, and Peggy Lundy; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a multitude of friends.
Floyd graduated from Celina High School in 1949 and attended Huntington College. Over the next 10-12 years, he met and married Janet Coverstone, graduated from Huntington, began teaching high school English, pastored churches in Indiana and Ohio, and became the father of three children: Jon, Tim, and Peggy.
In 1964, Floyd went with his wife and family to be missionaries in Sierra Leone, West Africa, where he served for six year. During that time he taught in a mission secondary school, served as the Education Secretary for the United Brethren in Christ Mission, and engaged in evangelistic outreach. He returned again in 1981 with his wife Janet and worked for two years as the Field Secretary. After returning to the States, Floyd resumed teaching English and pastoring local churches, but lost his wife in1986, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Floyd found joy and fulfillment, however, in the daily adventures of the students at Riverside Jr. High/High School in DeGraff, and in 1987 married friend and fellow missionary, Kathy Custer. In 1990 Floyd and Kathy moved to Ashland, Ohio, where Floyd attended Ashland Theological Seminary for two years. Upon returning to Logan County, he served for six years as a hospice chaplain, before becoming pastor at McKee’s Creek Chapel for nearly 25 years.
Floyd had often worked as a handyman, spending many summers replacing roofs, cleaning up storm damage, and painting houses and barns. He was friendly and outgoing, always able to strike up a conversation with just about anyone. He was fun-loving, enjoying the occasional dad joke, and delighted in “cutting off and replacing” the tip of his index finger after apparently “retrieving” it from behind the ear of an astonished child.
Floyd lived his life in service to God and to people around him. Even during his last months at Green Hills Center, now Otterbein Senior Life, Floyd would often pray with and for anyone who came to encourage him. He never retired from the ministry to which God called him.
Pastor Chris Starbuck will officiate a funeral service for Floyd on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Eichholtz, Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 321 N.
