Gene Raymond Hansen, age 79, of DeGraff, Ohio passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at his home.
He was born May 11, 1942, in West Allis, Wisconsin, a son of the late Harold Raymond Hansen and Jeanie Nelson. He was also preceded in death by a “special mother” who raised him, Janice Hansen; a sister, Harolyn Hansen; and a brother, Paul Hansen.
Gene married Joyce Irene (Miller) Hansen January 24, 1992 in Sidney, Ohio and she survives along with Gene’s two daughters, Lettica R. Hansen and Pamela Hansen; Joyce’s children, Ruby Shisler, Curtis Lykins, Robert Lykins, and Cathy (Charles) Carpenter; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; four sisters, Cheryl Hansen, Sue (Tim) Street, Terry Blaeser, and Judy (Brian) Wescott; two brothers, Tony (Debbie) Hansen, and James Hansen; and several nieces and nephews.
Gene served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1979, retiring as Chief Quartermaster. He served on numerous ships during his service, including the USS Springfield (CLG-7) and USS Tacoma (PG-92). Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Gene retired from KTH Industries following 20 years of employment. He was a lifetime member of the AMVETS and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his wife on the weekends. Gene could often be found navigating his pontoon boat on Indian Lake. He was a great neighbor and friend and did not know a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2022, at the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in DeGraff.
Pastor Bryan Meadows will officiate a graveside service Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff.
The staff of the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in DeGraff is honored to serve the Hansen family.
