Gloria Pearl Martin

Gloria Pearl Martin, 98, of Bellefontaine, died September 15 at Willow Brook Christian Home in Columbus, Ohio. She was born November 14, 1923, in Lemoyne, Ohio, daughter of Merril Van Camp and Pearl Van Camp. In 1944, she married Harold (Bud) F. Martin, Jr.; they were married 74 years.

She is survived by her three sons, Terry (Carolyn) of Upper St. Claire, PA., Gary (Jane) of Worthington, OH, and Tim (Karen) of Kalamazoo, MI; eight grandchildren including David Sr. (Jennifer) Martin, Dawn (Caz) Mostowy, Darrin (Laurena) Martin, Andrew (Helen) Martin, Jordan, Nathan and Nicholas Martin, and Meagan Schey, plus 14 great grandchildren and her beloved sister Gay (Bob) Winters.

Gloria was preceded in death by her loving husband Bud, her parents, and grandson Jason Martin.

Gloria was a faithful and active member of the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine and volunteered with Logan County Weekday Religious Association from 1991-2000.

She graduated from Pemberville High School and attended the University of Toledo for a year before she and Bud married. Bud and Gloria were high school sweethearts. After raising her three boys, Gloria attended Bowling Green State University and graduated in 1966 after attaining her degree in Education. Gloria taught fourth grade for 20 years, initially in Findlay, Ohio and then spent most of her teaching career at the Indian Lake Schools where she retired.

Gloria deeply loved her husband Bud and her family. Her faith in Jesus was strong and she was involved in women’s Bible studies and prayer groups with her church friends. She attended several women’s faith conferences with her lifelong friends Terry Bushong and Joyce Cooley. She was a faithful Bible reader. She loved reading. One of her favorite authors was Corrie ten Boom (The Hiding Place). She passed on her love of reading to her son Gary.

Gloria enjoyed traveling, baking cookies with her grandkids, sports, and vacationing in the family cabin on the shore of White Fish Bay, MI. Most of all she loved her family and her Lord. We all have many fond memories of summer vacations at the “Bay.” She will be missed by us all.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church, 201 N. Main St. in Bellefontaine, where the visitation is at 11 AM followed by the funeral service at 12 noon, with Pastor Joe Ziraldo officiating. Interment will be at Huntsville Cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Gloria’s name may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine.
