Homer Arnett Jr., 77, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Monday, August 25, 2008, at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio.

He was born April 18, 1931, a son of the late Homer Arnett, former superintendent of parks for the City of Bellefontaine from 1951 to 1971, and Jesse Arnett. He also was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Helen Arnett.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in May 1948 and served his country during the Korean War. He was assigned to special services at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu.

In May 1951, he married the former Mabel Lindo of Honolulu. After an honorable discharge, he moved his family to Oakland, California in 1953, and he joined the construction industry.

In 1954, he was named Apprentice of the Year for the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Area. In 1960, he moved his family to Los Angeles, where he continued his construction career.

He returned to Bellefontaine in 1974 and served as a independent contractor until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman and extraordinary father.

Survivors include a son, Lawrence (Diane) Wayne Arnett of Los Angeles, California, a graduate of California State University, Northridge; two granddaughters, Tiffany Nichelle Arnett, a San Diego State University graduate, and Ashley Nicole Arnett, a junior at the University of Nevada; nieces Lynn, Beverly, Marilyn and Pamela Arnett; and his aunt, Doris Nevers of Bellefontaine.

A memorial service and military service by the Logan County Honor Guard will be conducted at 8 P.M. Monday, September 8, 2008, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine, where calling hours begin at 6 P.M. A private burial is Tuesday at the Preston Cemetery in Alger, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers and in his memory, his family asks you to perform a random act of kindness to at least one stranger. In addition, the family would like to extend a special thanks to the Angels of 9 North at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center.
