Lawrence W. Zeller, 82, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at Logan Acres. He was born in Indianapolis on July 30, 1926, a son of the late Lawrence W. Sr. and Elizabeth Cavanaugh Zeller. On August 21, 1948, he married the former Dolores Surgue and she survives, along with a son, David; a daughter, Mary E. (John) Teolis; brother, William (Paula) Zeller; three grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kathleen Byrne; an aunt, Doris Clagg; and several nieces and nephews.

He attended Culver Military Academy and Indiana University, was a veteran of World War II and owned and operated the Mine and Mechanical Supply Co. in Terre Haute, Indiana. He also was secretary of the family-owned Knox Consolidated Coal Company of Indianapolis.

He was active in the Indiana Mining and Electrical Association of Indiana; was an active member in the Kiwanis Club and took part in several charitable events; and was a member of the Elks and the Elks Country Club of Terre Haute.

An avid golfer, he was a member of the Terre Haute Country Club and won many trophies over the years. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to Bellefontaine, where he was a member of the Elks Lodge in Bellefontaine and St. Patrick Catholic Church, and was an associate member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He continued playing golf and enjoyed traveling through the eastern states and Canada.

At his request, no calling hours or funeral are planned. A graveside service for the family will take place at a later date.

The family wishes to thank friends who visited him, sent flowers and get-well messages during his illness. They were deeply appreciated.
