Leo N. Smith

Leo N. Smith, 90, of Urbana, passed away at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at his residence. He was born in Holyoke, Colorado on January 6, 1933, to the late Floyd and Laura (Martin) Smith. 

Leo is survived by his children, David (Connie) Smith of Jackson, Ohio, Elizabeth (Dan) Heinlin of Arizona, Shirley (Gregg) Dutra of Texas, and Clifford (Ethel H.) Smith of West Liberty, Ohio; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Nancy Hancock; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Leo was preceded in death by his former wife, Rachel Ann Smith; sister, Norma Jean Meyers; and brothers, Richard Smith, and Douglas Smith. 

Leo was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during 1953 to 1954 in Korea as an engineer. Working and driving a truck were his passion. Leo worked for Ray Hensley Inc. in Springfield from 1977 to 2013. He hauled agricultural lime from 1954 to 2013, drove snowplows for Harmony and Madison Townships and rebuilt carburetors in Belle Center. Leo enjoyed square dancing in his younger years, going to tractor shows and family get togethers. 

Leo’s grandson, Nicholas Smith, will officiate a funeral service at 12 Noon on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 101 Zanesfield Road, West Liberty. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 6^th from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the funeral home. A burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty.
