Naomi Catherine Headings

Naomi Catherine Headings, 96, of West Liberty, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday morning, May 15, 2020, at Green Hills Care Center.

Naomi was born in Washington, DC, on April 15, 1924, to the late Newton S. and Nellie A. (Burkholder) Weber.  She married Tillman G. Headings and he preceded her in death on February 18, 1995.  Naomi was also preceded in death by her brother John N. Weber, and a great-grandson Isaac.

The oldest of four children, Naomi is survived by her two sisters, Ruth W. Yoder of Marysville, and Rhoda E. Peifer of Virginia; her three children:  Judith Headings of West Liberty, Kenneth (Amelia) Headings of Bellefontaine, and Kathryn (Carl) Fulk of Linville, Virginia; grandchildren: Ryan Headings, Kristina Kracus, Kendra (Stacy) Shaw, and Jimmy Kracus; five great-grandchildren: Ethan and Ava Kracus, Gaven Gudger, Naomi and Elvie Shaw.

Naomi attended high school at Eastern Mennonite School in Harrisonburg, Virginia.  After graduation in 1942, she and her sister Ruth worked for several families, Naomi did the cooking and Ruth was the governess.  She then did voluntary service cooking in several civilian public service camps before moving with her family to West Liberty, Ohio, in the mid-1940’s.  That is where she met Tillman Headings, and they were married on May 27, 1948, and they settled outside of Bellefontaine to raise their family.

Naomi was a homemaker, a wonderful cook, seamstress, and skilled quilter.  She did work a short period of time at Dee’s Department Store, in Bellefontaine, in the yard goods department.  In 1988, She and Tillman sold their home and moved to a garden apartment at Green Hills.

Naomi was a member at South Union Mennonite Church and was very involved with her church, helping with Sunday school and Bible school when her children were young.  She helped with hospitality and the women’s sewing and was very involved with her Sunday school class.

She volunteered on the Hospital Guild and clerked at Global Crafts (MCC Thrift) Store.  She loved her life and friends at Green Hills.  She enjoyed the Monday lunches at the Church of God, the Kitchen Band, the monthly birthday potlucks, and the church services and programs at Foundation Hall.  She cared about people and took time when she was able to visit her friends in the apartments and assisted living, sharing her baked custards.

Naomi loved her Lord and she loved her family.  They will miss her encouragement and loving support and also her Canada Cake and Peach Cobbler.

A private family graveside service will be held at South Union Cemetery.   Naomi’s life will be celebrated at a later date.

The family is being assisted with the arrangements by the staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty.
