Richard T. "Rick" Howerton

Richard T. “Rick” Howerton, 70, of Jackson Center, passed away at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 20, 1952, to the late Reuben V. Howerton and Maxine D. (Elliott) Engle.

On September 27, 1996, he married Barbara (Young) Howerton, and she survives.

He is also survived by his son, Shannon (Jessica) Howerton; granddaughters, Jessica Howerton, Jaymee (Cody) Skelly, and Ashley Carroll; grandsons, Thomas Howerton and Tyler Howerton; great grandchildren, Ashlynn Ruark and Ayrius Skelly; brother, Jim Frans; brothers-in-law, Mike Young and Jeff Young; and sister-in-law, Amy (Kenny) Banfield.

Rick was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served our country from March 1972 to July 1973. He was a member of the Backroom Executives Motorcycle Club and American Legion Scherer Post #493 in Jackson Center. Rick worked as a parts salesman at various motorcycle shops in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Ohio most of his career. He retired from Rising Sun Express after 20 years as the parts manager. Rick loved motorcycles and riding short and long trips. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed cocktails with his friends.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at his home.
