Verna Kay Fielder

Verna Kay Fielder, 84, of Quincy, passed away peacefully at 2:30 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023, at Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine, Ohio. She was born on July 29, 1938, in DeGraff, Ohio, a daughter of the late Stanley William and Alma Eleanor (Pickering) Ward.  Verna graduated from DeGraff High School on May 20, 1956.

On January 21, 1961, Verna married James Richard Fielder Jr. and he preceded her in death on April 19, 2007. She was also preceded in death by a dear grandson, Kameron Millice; and two sisters, Wilda (Paul) Baughman, and Shirley (John) Kerr.

Verna is survived by two sons, Kurt (Tammy) Fielder, and Keith (Kim) Fielder; and a daughter, Shari (Norm) Knepper; seven grandchildren, Natasha (Dustin) Buchenroth, Chelsi (Lane Stratton) Fielder, Megan (Ben) Kandel, Brice Geloff, Kirstyn (Shane) Legge, Kyle (Tori England) Millice, and Karson (Abby Lipinski) Millice; ten great grandchildren, Cale Buchenroth, Graham Buchenroth, Trace Buchenroth, Brooks Buchenroth, Karlee Purtee, Gunnar Stratton, Zane Kandel, Nolan Legge, Niles Legge and Blakely Legge; and two brothers, Vincent Ward, and Marvin (Carole) Ward.

Over the years, Verna worked at Plastipak and Green Hills Community. She also babysat her beloved grandkids and worked as a housekeeper and caregiver in more recent years.

Verna was a member of the Quincy United Methodist Church where she enjoyed serving as a lay speaker. Her hobbies included reading all types of books, especially her Bible and Billy Graham books, swimming, frequent trips to the Creamery or Orphan Annie’s, attending Garden Club, and she looked forward to Spring so she could plant her flowers. She enjoyed antiques, flea markets, and garage sales. Verna loved all animals, especially her many pets. Above all Verna enjoyed spending time creating lasting memories with her family and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren every chance she got. She had a big heart and left a mark on those lucky enough to know her.  Verna will be greatly missed by family and friends. 

Family visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by friends and family from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 210 W. Hayes Street in DeGraff, where Pastor Mark Vincent will officiate a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Verna’s memory, to the Quincy United Methodist Church, 111 South Street, Quincy, Ohio 43343 or the American Cancer Society, 5555 Frantz Road, Dublin, Ohio 43017.
