William "Joe" Herring

William “Joe” Herring, 85, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 5:59 p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2022, at his residence.

He was born in Logan County, Ohio on June 27, 1937, the son of the late William George and Mary Lu (Ricks) Herring Meyer, along with his late stepfather, Lawrence Meyer.  He was also preceded in death by a son, Rodney Joe Herring, and two brothers, John Edwin “Ed” Herring and Kenneth “Vernon” Herring.

On January 25, 1958, he married Ruth M. (McVay) Herring in Bellefontaine, Ohio and she survives along with their children; Debra (James) Pequignot, Rick Herring, and Bertha Kauffman, all of Bellefontaine, grandchildren; Joe (Paige) Pequignot, Mandy Pequignot, Misty Herring, Jessie (Joe) Brown, Michelle (John) Miller, Mindy Herring, Donna (Rich) Stevenson, and Jason Herring, great grandchildren; Arie (TreAnn), Haylee, Zoey, Mason, Garrett, Logan, Kahanna, and Addison, a brother, Robert Stanley Herring of Sidney and many nieces and nephews.

Joe enjoyed working on automobiles, trucks, tractors, or anything else with an engine.  He worked as a mechanic, owning and operating Herring Garage for 20 years.  Prior to that, he drove semi for himself for years before driving for Nelson Trucking and Chambers Trucking.  He also served in the National Guard.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 14, 2022, from 10 to 12Noon at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, OH.  Private graveside with burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery.
